ANTECEDENCE and OVERFLOW

"Ponded deposits upstream of the bedrock high deposited just
prior to transverse drainage incision"

The overflow mechanism requires lake upstream of the bedrock high with associated ponded sediments. that mechanism requires a lake.  Antecedent drainages also can generate ponded deposits if the transverse drainage only marginally maintains an active channel across the rising structure without being diverted.  The first and second images below show ponded deposition of light clays in physical models that replicated antecedence (first) and overflow (second).  The third image exemplifies ponded deposits commonly associated found upstream of antecedent or overflow transverse drainages.
